Spring’s Here!
Let's Warm Up the Learning Center from the Funding Freeze!
CCAP Enrollment Freeze: A Critical Challenge for Our Learning Center Families
The Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), which provides essential childcare vouchers to working families, has recently frozen funding in several counties, including Denver. This development poses significant challenges for many families who rely on this support to afford quality child care including those we serve at Open Door’s Learning Center.
Impact on Our Learning Center
The CCAP freeze has directly affected our Learning Center community:
28% of our students have lost their CCAP vouchers, creating financial hardships for their families.
New and potential students who don’t qualify for other subsidies now need some level of scholarship assistance, increasing the overall demand for scholarships.
Our staff are searching for other resources to serve our families, but we anticipate a major funding shortage soon as many of our summer program participants rely on CCAP to cover their full-day tuition. The freeze will force some of our families to find care in unlicensed centers that charge a lower rate but put their children at risk.
Our Commitment and Call to Action
Operating the Learning Center costs $571,670 annually, with 30% of our budget traditionally covered by grant funding and vouchers like CCAP from the families we serve. The current freeze presents a critical situation, but at Open Door, we believe in the strength of our community and our faith to overcome these challenges.
