This is a transitional home for women, primarily targeting
those leaving the sex-trade industry,
addictions, and other destructive lifestyles. The Esther House
program has several components.
Each resident is paired with a staff member/mentor who meets
with her individually at least once
a week. This mentor provides accountability and direction
in goal-setting with regard to
employment, education, and life skills. Staff members live
in the house, so they are a living
example of stable, healthy lives.
We also teach life principles in order for the women to become
responsible, contributing
members of society. Each resident is expected to become and/or
remain drug and alcohol free.
Residents are taught Biblical principles of living free and
productive lives through Bible studies,
church, counseling, and Christian staff members.
According to www.streetshope.org,
“Denver is widely known as a ‘prostitution-friendly’
city.”
This is especially evident along the Colfax corridor. Denver
Police, court system, and City
Council are working to remove this stigma. In the process,
they are seeing the need for
rehabilitation and practical hope for the women caught up
in the trap of prostitution.
These women are typically victims, as well as perpetrators.
They are either caught in a cycle of
drugs and are prostituting in order to support that habit,
or they are being abused and used by
men for money. These women are ensnared in a lifestyle that
is very difficult to leave without
support from people who care about them individually.
